Kumpulan ACTS (The ACTS Group - ACTS
stands for A Call To Serve) was founded
in 2003 in response to the many needs of the growing refugee population in
Malaysia. We begun our work assisting refugee communities living in jungle
sites adjacent to big construction projects.
Our work has since grown to focus on health issues on those same groups
of refugees as well as refugees in detention centers and more urban based
refugees. Besides health, we also engage in various community services, food
aid and advocacy for refugee communities.
We have about ten full time staff and our office is in Section 5,
Petaling Jaya. We also operate a convalescence home in Batu Arang called
PERCH.
Our funding comes mostly from the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), and we
are assisted both by the Asia-Pacific regional office in Bangkok as well as
JRS International in Rome. Other support comes from generous donors both
locally and internationally. We collaborate with many bodies in Malaysia,
including the government, UNHCR and the many NGOs engaged in similar work.
